Nicoletti, Charles (1916-1971)

In 1962, Chicago newspapers coined the term “Hit car” after a patrolman spotted gangsters 'Milwaukee Phil' Aldersio and Charlie 'Chuckie' Nicoletti, known killers, crouched on the floor of a 'hit' car, parked on a dark street. When officers searched the car they found several secret compartments filled with rifles, shotguns and pistols. Both mobsters were dressed in black hats, black coats, black pants and black shoes. They said they were lying on the floor of the car while they waited for a friend. In July 1959, Aldersio and Frabotta were suspects in the murder of Joe Bronge, a beer distributor.The Outfit, under the direction of Joey Gagliano, were trying to muscle their way into Bronge’s business. The police believed that Accardo himself ordered the murder. Organized Crime historian Andy Russo has written that Nicoletti was suspected in at least 20 murders.  A grammar school drop out, in 1929 Nicoletti killed his father in what was ruled a justifiable homicide. He joined Sam Giancana in the 42 gang in the 1930s when the gang rented itself as gunmen to Rocco DeGrazio in the union wars. Nicoletti did meet secretly with the FBI who were trying to turn him into an informant, but Nicoletti never flipped. …
